Reuse
Reuse means finding alternative ways to use by-products.
Lotus Professional® is continuously looking to find innovative ways to reuse the by-products of the papermaking process for production and packaging. We also have a number of wiper products that are designed for multiple use and reuse.
Our facilities’ by-products are reused in road building, brick making and providing strong foundations for highways: In our Cuijk (The Netherlands) productions site, the sludge is used as a key ingredient for cement and brick making, which reduces the need to use natural resources.
In all our manufacturing sites more than 90 percent of the water used in our paper-making and pulping processes is continuously reused.
All mills continuously strive for maximal recycling of waste by avoiding landfill if alternatives exist. Our Nokia (Finland) production site has reduced its landfilling by more than 50 percent in 2008.
The heat made from our cogeneration equipment at our Hondouville (France) site is used across all our manufacturing process, but is also used to heat our offices and workplaces during winter, thanks to a heat exchanger. We have the same approach in Cuijk (The Netherlands) where our offices, workplaces and stores are heated by the excess heat generated throughout the paper making process.
Additional waste such as plastics, cardboards, electric and electronic waste and metals generated in our production sites is collected and segregated to allow proper recycling or reusing.
