Lotus Professional® is part of Georgia-Pacific, one of the world’s largest producers of commercial paper products.

Our company is a main producer of away-from-home product source reducing systems.

We have identified the following environmental challenges for our products and demonstrate how by practicing the three R’s “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, we are addressing these.

Reduce paper consumption: recycled content is a priority for environmentally preferable away-from-home products, but reducing use is even better for the environment.

Continue to use recycled or virgin fibers coming from certified suppliers:
meeting today’s needs without jeopardizing our ability to do so in the future.

Reduction of the use of energy in our manufacturing sites and transportation of our products: we recognize that CO2 and other greenhouse gases are an important issue for customers and other stakeholders.

Reduction of waste and water consumption and pollution: producing paper is a water intensive process and we continuously look for ways to reduce our water consumption as well as identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of our production processes.

Reducing paper consumption is at the core of our environmental commitment. Lotus Professional® is the pioneering producer of away-from-home systems: our enMotion®, SmartOne®, Reflex®, enSure Compact® and JustOne® dispensers reduce paper consumption by encouraging people to take the amount of paper needed.

Our premier touchless towel dispenser enMotion® uses one-at-a-time portion control to deliver the right amount of paper every time. With the wave of a hand, a single sheet of highly absorbent towel is dispensed and the adjustable timedelay feature discourages paper over-consumption. During a test conducted by an external agency, enMotion® systems provided 30 percent less consumption compared to a conventional C-Fold handtowel.

The JustOne® napkin dispenser can reduce paper consumption up to 30 percent compared to traditional dispensing napkins systems. So does the Reflex Wipers Centerfeed®, which can reduce consumption up to 40 percent. So does our SmartOne® bathroom tissue, which can allow a reduction in paper consumption of up to 40 percent compared to a standard Jumbo 380 meters, thanks to its single sheet dispensing system.

Reuse means finding alternative ways to use by-products.

Lotus Professional® is continuously looking to find innovative ways to reuse the by-products of the papermaking process for production and packaging. We also have a number of wiper products that are designed for multiple use and reuse.

Our facilities’ by-products are reused in road building, brick making and providing strong foundations for highways: In our Cuijk (The Netherlands) productions site, the sludge is used as a key ingredient for cement and brick making, which reduces the need to use natural resources.

In all our manufacturing sites more than 90 percent of the water used in our paper-making and pulping processes is continuously reused.

All mills continuously strive for maximal recycling of waste by avoiding landfill if alternatives exist. Our Nokia (Finland) production site has reduced its landfilling by more than 50 percent in 2008.

The heat made from our cogeneration equipment at our Hondouville (France) site is used across all our manufacturing process, but is also used to heat our offices and workplaces during winter, thanks to a heat exchanger. We have the same approach in Cuijk (The Netherlands) where our offices, workplaces and stores are heated by the excess heat generated throughout the paper making process.

We are committed to using resources wisely and our product portfolio reflects this commitment. 80 percent of our Lotus Professional® paper production is made from recycled fibers.

We do this without sacrificing any quality standards to our customers. Lotus Professional® recycled towel, tissue, napkin and wiper products retain high performance value, softness and brightness, while reducing the volume of waste paper that would go into landfills or incineration.

Georgia-Pacific Harmon Recycling is one of the world’s largest buyers and sellers of waste paper. Georgia-Pacific uses more than 3 million Tons of recovered paper and paperboard in its world-wide facilities… and that’s just part of the story.

Georgia-Pacific Harmon Recycling partners with paper industries throughout the world to recycle fibers for reuse in the most cost-effective ways, reducing the need to harvest precious raw natural resources and the amount of fiber that would otherwise end up in landfills. Georgia-Pacific Harmon Recycling tailors solutions for any client, earning a reputation for exceptional customer service.
